Introduction to beekeeping

Creating self-employment through low labor and low capital activities in agrarian Bangladesh, alleviating poverty through increased income, empowering women, expanding cottage industries related to bee farming machinery, improving nutrition, increasing fruit and crop yields and balancing the environment through compulsory tree planting. It is possible to meet the demand of pure honey in the country by producing more honey including motivating millions of people interested in beekeeping activities through application of modern technology, increase fruit and crop production through successful pollination and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

History of beekeeping
History of beekeeping  in Bangladesh Bees usually make beehives in forests, tree branches, tree hollows, earthen pits, convenient places in buildings. In the Sundarbans, bees collect honey in defiance of the fear of tigers. In this way, many bees are destroyed while collecting honey in an unscientific way. At present, with the advancement of knowledge and science, many things have become easier. The application of technology has made it possible to domesticate natural bees. Beekeeping is now practiced in wooden boxes in almost all countries of the world. In this system, bee colonies are collected from the natural environment or queens are produced by artificial insemination and reared in wooden boxes in a technical and scientific way.

Introduction to bees
- Bees are a type of social and beneficial insect;
- Living in a colony consisting of queens, workers and men collectively;
- naturally lives in nature;
- Mainly collects nectar and pollen from flowers;
- Time and field Collects sweet juices from special leaves, stems of plants, sweet fruits and sugary foods;
- Collect nectar or sweet juice and produce honey as their immediate food and future storage through a prescribed process;
- Proteins collected from pollen from bees, especially young bees, meet the national food needs.

Types of bees There
are four types of bees in nature. They are Apis Melifera, Apis Dorseta, Apis Serena and Apis Floria. However, the cultivation of Apis melifera species is profitable in the context of our country.

Characteristics of Apis mellifera
- Origin in Europe and Africa;
- Large in size and quiet in nature;
- More honey producing capacity (honey production capacity of at least 50 kg per year per colony) means pet in the box and never leaves the box or colony. Bee cultivation in pollination
It is universally acknowledged that successful pollination by bees is possible. The production of bee pollinated crops increases by 10 to 15 per cent in different honey flowering seasons and the value of the extra crop produced is 10 to 15 per cent higher than the total value of honey and beeswax produced. In order to motivate the beekeepers as well as the farmers to increase the production of surplus fruits and crops, mobile bee farms and exhibition activities are being conducted in different honey season. This will benefit both beekeepers and farmers in increasing the production of more honey and fruits and crops. It is possible to contribute more to the country's GDP as a result of increased production of fruits and crops.

Caution in bee cultivation

Pesticides should always be sprayed in the afternoon on the land around the mowbox. Otherwise the bees will die due to the application of pesticides.
